What makes our nervous system so unique?
Our brain, which comprises around 85 billion neurons and consumes around a fifth of the body's total energy, is responsible for numerous tasks, with conscious thought accounting for only a fraction of its functions. It relies on a comprehensive supply of micronutrients, amino acids, vitamins, antioxidants and other vital substances that detoxify, protect and promote regeneration.
Despite the widespread belief that the brain and its cells are incapable of regeneration, recent studies on neuroplasticity have proven that the brain is indeed capable of regenerating itself. It can transfer functions of damaged areas to other parts of the brain and renew damaged neurons through neurogenesis. The key to this ability lies in mental and physical activity, which stimulates the growth of hormones that stimulate the formation and networking of new nerve cells.
